I do wish it would have asked "Are you sure?" like it does on other things.  I've learned an important lesson, SLOW DOWN!

I'm Still Here

I'm still here, just not boring you with night after night of the progress of the Orca Bay Mystery quilt.  But tonight is Add It Up Wednesday, so you will get to find out where I am.  LOL


Step 1  228 quarter square triangles - DONE
Step 2   72 blue string blocks - DONE
Step 3  350 half square triangles - 230 done  All are cut out.
Step 4    64 red string blocks -24 done
Step 5  700 black triangles -20 are cut out
Step 6  112  2.5 inch black squares -DONE
            112  2.5 inch light squares - DONE
              52 2.5 inch red squares - DONE
              26 light Ohio Star blocks - DONE
              26 dark Ohio Star blocks - DONE
Step 7  sew the 700 black triangles to the 350 half square triangles (2 on each side) - zero
Step 8  127 red string triangles combined with the 254 half square winged triangles - zero
            100 half square winged triangles set with 100 light triangles - zero
Step 9  The big finish  put all of the blocks together in rows and sew rows together. -zero
            Make borders using 100 blocks made in Step 8. - zero

I discovered tonight that I really needed to add another step to this.  The 700 black triangles weren't listed as being used.

And now for some fun.  Last night was the Piecemakers Quilt Guild Of Western Iowa.  Our program was vintage baby quilts.  Your own, those you made for your children, your grandchildren or have collected.  What amazing quilts.  Lots of quilts with embroidery.  I had forgotten what an art that was during the first part of the century.  There were yo yo quilts, a sunbonnet sue, nursery rhymes and one lady made quilts that had a pocket for a stuffed animal or baby.  Like a kangaroo with a baby in her pouch, rock a bye baby with a baby in the cradle.  So wonderful!

A Little Something

I love Pinterest!  I found this really cute little tissue holder pattern at Stamp, Stitch & Swizzle Stix.

So I made one up this afternoon. In like about 5 minutes.  The longest part of making it, was the cutting out the pieces.  SO cute!  I'm thinking they will make great little gifts.  Check it out. Go ahead.  You'll be glad you did.

Organization

It's been all about organization recently.  I feel the need, as do many other people, to have some organization in my sewing space.  If you follow Quilting Gallery, you know that  they have been doing weekly spots on organization.  Plus, seeing all the wonderful sewing rooms and quilt studios on Pinterest and other blogs, makes me want my room to be more like that.

So tonight on my way home from work I stopped at the Comic book store and picked up magazine boards to use for fabric.

My sister, Deb, at Cluttered Quilter did this and she has a little tutorial on folding fabric.  So I'm going to give it a try. Just need to keep taking the baby steps to getting to an organized state.  

Help!

I can't believe it!  Someone has stolen a quilt.  I can't even begin to imagine what the quilter is feeling about this.  All the work.  All the love.  Gone.

Add It Up Wednesday

Another week has flown by.  I can't believe how fast time goes.

I'm hoping for another red DONE (on my half square triangles) by next week.  Slow and steady is doing it.

Declutter item - another magazine

Still In Progress

My Orca Bay Mystery quilt is still in progress.  I worked on it tonight.  I did more half square triangles and I also made 2 red string blocks.  Kind of fun to be working on the string blocks.  I love making those.

My decluttering efforts has taken a turn to the cooking side, the freezer to be exact.  I have been planning and cooking meals using items in the freezer.  It is starting to have a little room in it, which is nice.  Early spring I want to defrost the freezer.  It's an upright freezer, not real big, but big enough for my husband and myself.  And I have been amazed at how much food we have in it.

Time Flies

How can't believe how fast time flies.  I haven't posted anything since Wednesday!  I've been working on projects but not blogging about it. It has been a busy week.  I had a birthday, we went out to dinner with friends and we had a Fund Raiser to go to.  Whew!

 First, I covered a canvas with black fabric and batting for my husband.  He collects Bowl Buttons and this works great for display.  (Yes he is an Iowa Hawkeye Fan.)

I been plugging away at the Orca Bay Mystery quilt.  I finished the Ohio Star blocks and am now sewing more half square triangles.



As I mentioned I had a birthday and my husband bought this book for me:

I want to redo my sewing room.  I've been thinking of switching the guest bedroom and my current sewing room as the guest bedroom is larger.  One problem I have is the floor in the guest bedroom has carpet.  I would like to remove that and put in laminate.  So it's not as easy as just painting the walls in both rooms and switching the furniture and fabric.  So working on a plan.  Plus, I don't know how much I want to give up sewing time to do this move.

Declutter item: More silk flowers lost in the basement, a book and some Christmas decorations.  (I have them all boxed up and I pulled out a box and went through it for old, outdated items.)

I've been spending some time cleaning and loving the organizing ideas that I'm collecting on Pinterest.  I'm really thinking a quilting room overhaul is in store for this summer.  I've been thinking about it and planning it in my head.  Will start writing down the plan soon.  For me, Pinterest has been mini vision boards.  Love it!

I Hope It's Working

I'm hoping the computer is working.  It's still been slow and some sites won't load, so not sure if it's totally fixed.  But we'll give it a go, as I really miss being able to blog.

First, a little catch up.  The last 2 weekends I took a class on using the Twister Ruler.  It's really fun and much easier than the directions looked like.  Here is the final quilt before I started cutting out the Twisters.

I was going to put the yellow squares where the 4 white squares are, but I ripped out the wrong row, so I just went with that.

I got the first 2 rows done in class and then I started to have problems with my machine.  I ended up leaving a little early, but when I got home and changed bobbins, it worked just fine.  Not sure what the problem was.  This weekend with all the snow,

I was able to finish the top and it's now ready for the borders to be added.  I am going to use a dark brown for the 1st border and I need to buy some fabric from this line for the outside border.  I am so happy with the way this turned out.

And I'm just as excited over this new (to me) way of hemming jeans that I found on Pinterest.  Check this out!  SO easy!  I have some cords I'm going to try it on next.
